Mueller Time

cjones03272019

While talking to my producer at CNN on Thursday afternoon, we were discussing the best subjects for this Sunday’s cartoon. We both liked one particular issue and thought it had the most potential for humor while acknowledging the Mueller Report was hanging over our heads. I told her, “those fuckers will probably release it at 5:00 P.M. Friday afternoon and screw us up.”

Those fuckers released it at 5:00 P.M. Friday afternoon and screwed us up.

Actually, I don’t think they screwed us up and we’re going to stick with the cartoon I finished for them Friday, which I’m really happy with. But, I had just finished my last cartoon for the day, which was my third. On Fridays, I have to draw for CNN, The Costa Rica Star, and my syndication which is what you see here on the blog. By the time I was done yesterday evening, I just wanted to eat dinner and go to sleep…then Mueller happened.

I did eat. My friend Dallas and I went out and talked about it. As I was walking out the door, I got my first idea…and then my second. This is the second, though Dallas really liked my first. I felt this one summed up the moment best. Of course, this cartoon is dated and will probably be worthless in a couple of days…maybe.

Regarding what we know, the Trump team are celebrating because there are to be no more indictments. That sucks. I was really hoping to see them delivered to Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and perhaps even Ivanka and Hope Hicks. We know they lied and did their best to obstruct and collude with Russia. These are people who deserve to be charged for crimes.

I don’t know what’s in the Mueller Report yet but I do know there was collusion. What Mueller may not have been able to find is direct evidence that Trump was personally involved. But, the campaign hosted Russians at Trump Tower, had access to the stuff Wikileaks was stealing from the Clinton Campaign, and Donald Trump himself asked publicly for Russia to help him. We know that over a dozen people were in direct contact with Russia during the campaign.

We also know Trump obstructed justice. The guy told Lester Holt straight out that he fired Comey to end the investigation, then he told the same thing to…wait for it…RUSSIANS. Unfortunately, Mueller was never able to get Trump to testify verbally, and the written questions didn’t include any on obstruction. I feel no matter what’s in the report, we’re getting the shaft. We have a criminal in the White House, and while the Senate of sycophants would probably never convict him, I hate to see a corrupt president skate.

What I predict is that the Mueller report will NOT clear Trump, even if it doesn’t “indict” him. I don’t expect it to say there wasn’t any collusion or obstruction. I expect it to say they couldn’t gather all the facts…which is because of obstruction. Donald Trump and his cult will point at the report and claim it vindicates him, even though it won’t. But, these jerks have made those claims before, twisting statements from judges and politicians and at times, just making them up.

Mueller’s time may be over but our’s is just beginning. Whether Trump is impeached or voted out of office, he has to be removed from office. A stupid, racist, game show host kneedeep in corruption is in charge of our government and we can’t let this stand. I don’t care what the Mueller Report says, Donald Trump is more than just a bad president. He’s a danger and a national security risk. His move yesterday, recognizing the Golan Heights as a political favor proves that.

Mueller can retire in peace now, play golf, and sleep in. We gotta go to work.

Cheeto Potentate

cjones11272018

Demagoguery comes before fascism. In case you haven’t noticed, Donald Trump has the demagoguery down.

Trump loves him some fascists. He buddies up to the authoritarian leaders of Turkey, the Philippines, Russia, China, North Korea, and even gave the monarchs of Saudi Arabia a pass over murdering a journalist who was a U.S. resident.

He’s speculated that the United States will have a president for life someday, which sounds less like speculation and more like thinking out loud.

He believes elections that don’t produce the results he wants are fraudulent. He’s claimed that counting every vote is cheating.

He’s referred to the media as “fake news” and the “enemy of the people.” He’s attempted to punish journalists by stripping their White House passes. He’s said that it’s a shame people can write and publish whatever they want.

He believes he can change parts of the U.S. Constitution with an executive order.

He’s attacked the courts and said we need to do something about them. He’s accused them of being dangerous to the country.

He wants to prosecute his political enemies, pressuring the Justice Department to go after Hillary Clinton and James Comey. He’s stripped clearance from former officials who have criticized him. He’s fired people from the FBI and Justice Department who have investigated him and has called for their imprisonment.

He tells his followers not to believe everything they see and hear, and it’s working. They don’t believe facts. His sycophants debate his greatness while rarely ever talking policy, because, like their leader, they don’t know policy. When facts are pointed out to them, they say they’re lies. They attack the messenger while ignoring the message. He has a base that puts sycophancy above honesty and patriotism.

He has said he is the only one who can fix America’s problems, even stating at the Republican National Convention, “Only I can fix it.” He tells us that he’s our favorite president. During Thanksgiving, he said he was thankful for himself.

He has used the military for political propaganda, costing us millions.

Donald Trump is not a dictator, but he wants to be. We have a system of checks and balances and Trump is the test that they will work or not. There are three branches of government and one of those branches wants to go unchecked and another has been ignoring its job has spent the past two years protecting the first. Hopefully, the courts won’t protect Trump.

Voters have given the House to Democrats with a mandate. Protect us from Trump and hold him accountable. The majority of Americans don’t want to live under a dictatorship. Trump supporters dream of it.

Trump doesn’t just want to win on policy. He wants full authoritarian power without any checks and balances. He wants to rule, not govern. The warning signs are there. He’s telling us every day what he wants and what he wants to be. It’s not a mystery. When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

People say Donald Trump never really wanted to be president. That’s true. But, it doesn’t mean he never wanted to be the nation’s leader.

Facebook News

cjones05162016

When conservatives complain about the media being liberal, what they’re really upset about is the media reporting facts. Sure there’s bias in the media, but it’s not a massive agenda being carried out just because you’re not hearing what you want to hear, or believe.

The “mainstream” media is not liberally biased. If anything, the number one cable news network has a conservative bias, with that being Fox News. Here’s a news flash for those watching the news and whining that it’s not on their side: The media, cable news, newspapers, and websites, number one agenda is to make money. It’s all about ratings, circulation and advertising. If we’re to believe the media is actually biased then right now the media wants Donald Trump to become president. Only the political cartoonists actually want that to happen.

If you really want honest news then you would not demand more conservative or liberal news. You would demand news. Even if the media is biased one way or another, creating more biased media does not balance anything. Misinformation and lies doesn’t correct another source of misinformation and lies. I demand facts and comprehensive coverage. That’s what I use to form my petition.

This week conservatives are complaining about a report that Facebook is suppressing conservative news from trending. Trending is that thing on the right hand side of your Facebook page, which I know you have open right now. At this very moment what’s trending on my Facebook is: London mayor Sadiq Khan, climate activists protesting in Anacotes, Washington, Zika in Singapore, fishermen in Melville Island, Australia caught a cod with a snake in its mouth, the tiny Vaquita Porpoise, a missing 81-year-old man in Spotylvania County, Virginia (that one targeted me), Angry Birds the movie (maybe Facebook doesn’t know), world’s biggest plane lands in Australia and lands in a fish’s mouth (I made that last part up), Nevada Democratic Convention, and Facebook’s CEO delivers a commencement speech.

Unless that tiny dolphin is claiming Donald Trump made odd sexual remarks at her back in the 90’s, I’m not detecting a liberal bias in that list.

My main news source is Google News. I scroll there and click on articles from multiple outlets. It’s the best resource for me. I flip channels between CNN and MSNBC during the day and will occasionally watch Fox News to see how they’re spinning something. MSNBC is conservative in the morning, straight forward from midday to the evening, and at night liberally biased at night. CNN is straightforward and they balance their panels on their nightly shows. Fox News, where every female is required to be a blonde and they’re not allowed to wear sleeves,M is just always biased toward conservatives. The ONE America News makes Fox News look like the BBC.

Are you really complaining you’re not getting enough Breitbart and Daily Caller through Facebook? Do you know how to bookmark? Does your current news filter not provide enough racist comments that fit your agenda? Bookmark. Learn it. Use it. Shut up.

One fact is that a lot of people are getting their news from Facebook. Facebook doesn’t gather news. They share it. They don’t employ any political cartoonists, the bastards.

Facebook does select what’s trending and they target their readers toward their habits. Every time you click “like” on a photo (or a cartoon) or click on one of those sites that click bait you to inform you of your Jedi name or if your cat was Al Capone in a previous life, Facebook is gathering information about you. Each time you post a selfie, Facebook knows you’re a narcissist and attempts to sell you a selfie stick. Each time you post a food picture, Facebook knows you’re lonely and crying for help but directs you toward Taco Bell instead. Every time (Every. Single. Freaking time) you announce you’re a vegetarian, everybody already knows because you won’t shut up about it (and those food pics are about as alluring as that nude portrait of Trump with the tiny penis making the rounds. Oh you haven’t seen that? Do NOT go looking for it!).

Mark Zuckerberg is going to meet with conservative news leaders like Glenn Beck this week to talk about Facebook’s trending news. There’s nothing he’s going to say to the perpetual victims that will satisfy them so if I was him I’d rather just tell them to go suck a lemon.

Stupid, low informed people have a very low bar for their news source. Since Zuckerberg is attempting to appease them anyway, I suggest he tag all of them with memes.

Grabby 2016

cjones03302016

Michelle Fields, a reporter for Breitbart, claimed that Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski grabbed her and left bruises on her arm. This happened after a Trump press conferences in Jupiter, Florida, on the night of a primary.

The Trump campaign never admits wrongdoing or apologizes. They claimed it never happened. Lewandowski tweeted, because these people tweet, that he never touched or met Fields. Trump said it never happened. Fields published pictures of bruises on her arm.

Field’s organization, Breitbart, failed to back her up so Fields resigned.

Lewandowski was arrested Tuesday on charges of battery in Jupiter, Florida, where the incident happened. Video is out of the guy grabbing the female reporter. Now Trump says he “brushed by her.” I guess it turns out they did meet, though it probably wasn’t a formal introduction like “hello, I’m Corey Lewandowski. May I manhandle you?”.

On the video the reporter is walking along Trump, trying to ask questions. Lewandowski comes up from through the crowd and behind Fields, grabs and stops her as Trump keeps going. He definitely did more than brush by her. The Trump campaign is trying to do the Jedi-mind trick on the public by saying what you’re seeing on the video isn’t really what you’re seeing. This is not the assault you’re looking for.

Fields claimed afterward that she was grabbed by the arm and almost yanked to the ground. The video makes the Trump campaign look like liars. It makes Fields out that she exaggerated the incident.

Yeah, she was grabbed. It probably lasted a second. That’s long enough to leave a bruise. Is that battery? In Florida, yes it is. There is no excuse to grab anyone without permission. If they give you permission as in “yes, please grab me” then go ahead and get all grabby and up in their business. Campaigns don’t have habit of rouging up reporters, no matter how much the campaigns hate the press in their love/hate relationship.

Campaigns also don’t understand that when they write rules for the media, as in “don’t ask questions,” that the media has no obligation to obey those rules. Campaigns don’t dictate journalism. I know. Wouldn’t it just be easier for candidates if the media would only ask pre-approved questions?

Now Breitbart really isn’t journalism. It’s a right wing troll site. If you’re ever debating someone over politics and they cite a Breitbart article, you automatically win the argument. Working for Breitbart makes any claim by Fields questionable, even in conflict with Donald Trump. We’re talking about a “journalist” that chooses to work for a news organization that doesn’t operate or conduct itself with the same ethical or moral guidelines as the legitimate media. They are not news. They exist to obstruct Obama and encourage fear, racism, and feed lies that will make their readers angry at liberals. Imagine Fox News without any moral or ethical code. I know. You already thought they didn’t have any. Go read a Breitbart article, then read the comments section, then take a shower.

Fields did exaggerate. I don’t believe she’s been taught that journalists aren’t supposed to make stuff up. But she’s not wrong in that she was violated. She was grabbed. It’s a blurry video but you can tell she’s suddenly stopped as soon as Lewandowski reached her.

The Trump campaign has less credibility than Breitbart. Breitbart backed Trump up by not demanding an apology or an explanation from the Trump campaign. Fields resigned for their lack of support to which I ask Fields: What did you expect from Brietbart? You lie down with snakes, don’t be surprised when they bite. I’m sure she won’t have any issues with integrity in the future since she now works for Fox News and The Daily Caller (insert eye roll here).

What’s next? Lewandowsky will be slapped on the wrist if the charges are not dropped. The Trump campaign increases its campaign of violence, hate, and misogyny. This issue will be a footnote in July when the Republicans hold their convention in Cleveland. There will be new scandals. Maybe Trump will toss a midget.

Trumping The Press

cjones08262015

Just because I don’t draw enough Donald Trump cartoons.

The media tends to stick up for each other. When Obama tried to keep Fox News out of White House press briefings the other journalists in the White House Press Pool stood up for the Fox News reporters. Say what you will about Fox but they ARE the media (no matter how much they and their viewers complain about the media).

Tuesday Donald Trump started his Iowa press conference by throwing out Univision’s Jorge Ramos. The second question he received “why did you throw out Mr. Ramos?”.

I immediately thought “here we go again” and “I know what the press will be talking about for the next two days…and what I’m going to draw about next.”

Trump claimed he didn’t throw Ramos out though it was his bodyguard hustling him out the door with his hands on him the entire time. He also claimed he didn’t know Ramos though he stated “go back to Univision” as if it’s a town in Mexico (I stole that line from editorial cartoonist Lalo Alcarez). and he’s suing Univision for $5 million.

There’s usually different protocols for different politicians at press conferences. For Trump, he selects who can ask him a question. Before he started his press conference Ramos was asking questions pretty loudly. At a lot of press conferences that’s how it’s done. You try to shout out a question louder than other reporters and why everyone covets a front row seat. Ramos wouldn’t stop talking. Eventually Trump let Ramos back in and sparred with him over immigration for about five minutes.

Trump has extremely thin skin. He doesn’t take kindly to being asked a difficult question like “can you be more specific?” The “I’m rich” and “I’m very successful” responses don’t always satisfy a journalist’s question on something as intricate like “how are you going to build that 1,933 mile wall?” or  “how will you go about abolishing the 14th Amendment?” Them be some head scratchers. Trump doesn’t like to think too hard and scratch his head. He might mess up his comb over.

He also doesn’t think it’s fair to ask him “why do you treat women unfairly by calling them fat pigs?”. He’s been going at Fox News’ Megyn Kelly for a few weeks now. He gets angry at Fox and then Roger Ailes calls him and they mend fences and suddenly Kelly is on a surprise vacation. After she returns from vacation Trump goes off again, says she sucks and he’s doing well in polls. Ailes comes out in defense of Kelly and says Fox is doing well in ratings and they’re “Fair And Balanced” blah blah blah. Rachel Maddow is right. Watching Trump and Fox spar is like trying to choose a favorite between Godzilla and Rodan (or was it Mothra?). You know, I think Trump will win and Fox will cave. I totally expect Megyn Kelly to be on hurricane coverage in the near future.

Trump’s fight with the press goes back even farther. Do you know which media organization was not present at his press conference in Iowa? Only Iowa’s largest newspaper, the Des Moines Register. A few months ago the Register’s editorial page called on Trump to quit his presidential run. Never mind the fact that Trump says Hillary should quit, and Bush should quit, and Rubio should quit, and Paul should quit, etc. The only thing Trump wants to quit is Oreos (he hates anything that’s black and white. Ask Obama). He didn’t take kindly to that and has banned the Register’s reporters from attending his events. Someone has probably attempted to explain to him that a newspaper’s editorial page is separate from it’s news room but that might require a little more depth of understanding than Trump is capable.

My negative cartoon coverage of Trump (and their being shown on CNN) is probably why Trump doesn’t let me hang out with him. He never calls.

Here’s the first rough of the cartoon.

WP_20150826_002

I didn’t like the angle so I roughed it out again.

WP_20150826_003

This was my first idea. I’m glad I passed it over and included Trump’s treatment of the media in general, instead of just one guy.

Access To Hillary

cjones07072015

I’m not a huge fan of Hillary Clinton. I do share her views on most issues and I don’t dislike her personally. It’s her style as a public servant I have issues with. I don’t think she’s honest and that doesn’t have anything to do with Benghazi. I think she’d lie about what she had for breakfast. I think she’s too secretive and too controlling. Every politician attempts to control the message but they don’t literally try to corral the journalists covering them.

The other day Hillary was walking down a street and her staff had a rope the media weren’t allowed to get past, and the staffers walked the media down the street like dogs.

So maybe I don’t like her personally. I defend her from personal attacks and generally support her policies. I just want someone else to push those policies. I don’t care what’s in her emails as much as I care that she’s secretive and cagey about her emails. I don’t care that she doesn’t talk to the press (Obama doesn’t talk to the press). I care more when she does talk to the press and controls how they’re going to cover her. I don’t care about the Clinton Foundation’s fundraising. The Foundation is not Hillary Clinton.

If Hillary feels she should operate sneakily as a private citizen, Senator or Secretary of State, then how will President Hillary Clinton operate?

I don’t think Bernie Sanders can beat Hillary. Bernie is on a huge roll because he raised $15 million. That’s impressive but Hillary has raised $45 million. Bernie better have a really great strategy.

I can’t see Lincoln Chafee or Martin O’Malley beating her either (Google them if you don’t know who they are). Living in Virginia, I should be excited, interested or amused about Jim Webb running but I don’t feel anything but bewilderment.

That leaves Hillary (Since Elizabeth Warren won’t get in the race). Clinton is going to be president unless it’s proven that she’s the one who actually fired rockets into the Ambassador’s compound in Benghazi, or a dinosaur-killing-sized comet hits the planet, or she’s been writing song lyrics for Justin Bieber.

Then again, maybe one of those GOP candidates will inspire the country’s voters to thrust them into the White House. Smarter money is on the comet.

Jenner And The Media, Cartoon For The Daily Dot

dailydot06042015

Here’s this week’s cartoon for The Daily Dot.

Much has been said by the media of the way Caitlyn Jenner looks. In the past when the media talked about Bruce Jenner they talked his accomplishments. Yes we live in a sexist society.

Of course I’m the same guy that drew a cartoon earlier this week with “jiggly” Republicans.

I also think it’s interesting that some people are upset by the coverage. A lot of people are even posting photos of veterans on social media in response while stating “here’s a real hero.” Talk about two things that don’t have anything to do with the other. You know these people would never stop for a homeless vet.

It’s funny that a person being themselves is scary and freaky to so many people. There’s a lot of real dangers to be afraid of in this country. This isn’t one of them.

Here’s the rough.
