Make America Great Again

Ryan Gets Trumped

On the same day Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said he was voting for Donald Trump, note he didn’t say “endorse”, he had to make a statement condemning Trump’s racism. On Tuesday he actually came out and described Trump’s statements toward a judge as “racist.”

Within the same paragraph of describing Trump’s comments as racist, Ryan went on to say that he and his party had more in common with Trump than Hillary Clinton. If Paul Ryan had a soul he lost it last Monday.

I get that. They’re Republicans. They’ve spent over two decades trying to destroy the Clintons. But to say they have more in common with an inflammatory racist than with a Democrat is very telling…and very much Paul Ryan selling his soul in the name of politics.

Several Republicans have come out over the past few days condemning Trump for his racist statements. When someone has to defend themselves from racism because of one comment, then maybe they’re not an actual racist and they have been misunderstood. When you have to keep defending someone over SEVERAL racist comments, then the game is up. That tool bag is a racist. Are they really running with the campaign of “vote Trump. He’s really not a racist.”?

A telling sign that someone is a racist is when they’re playing the black-friend defense. Other than Trump screaming at a rally “where’s my African-American,” he’s gone on to tell us again and again how he’s hired people of different races. Yeah, with that analogy slave owners just loved black people. You don’t get a get-out-of-racism-jail-free card with that crap.

Every political cartoonist gets accused of being a racist at some point. We’re also accused of being Nazis, Communists, Traitors, Homosexuals, being without a penis, having sex with livestock, etc. Do you know how I respond to those accusations? I don’t. I don’t worry about having to respond to something that’s not true. My work speaks for itself and a reader without the ability to comprehend really isn’t my problem. Donald Trump has to respond to the racism accusations because they’re true. He also gets upset with the tiny hands comments which is very revealing.

The GOP is very racist. It’s not that they disagree with what Donald Trump is saying. It’s that they disagree that he’s not covert about it. They’re like “shut up. You’re giving away the first rule of Racist Fight Club.” For decades Republicans have cultivated the white vote by screaming about welfare, immigrants, school lunch, quotas, equal opportunity, affirmative action, birtherism, etc. They’re not supposed to go out in public and scream “he’s not good enough because he’s a Mexican.” They like to preserve that stuff for their cigar rooms at their country clubs away from the crowds and media. They’re very good at being covert and imagining welfare queens while winking at poor white voters who are actually on welfare. Minorities are for scapegoating and standing in the background of photo ops. Now they have a nominee too stupid not to say it in public. When Donald Trump shouted at a rally “my African-American” the GOP got off light because Trump was one step away from saying “my n***ger.”

“My n**ger” is a platform Republicans can get with. But it has to be disguised. Disguised with something like, oh…I don’t know….something like “Make American Great Again.”

Trump Looks Under The Hood

Donald Trump claims he doesn’t hire pollsters. That’s well and good because you shouldn’t need a consultant to tell you that you should disavow any association with the Ku Klux Klan. But for Donald Trump that question is a real thinker.

White supremacists love Donald Trump. They’ve been loving the GOP for a long time which is something the party pretends they’re ignorant of. “The Klan who? We don’t know nothing about them. Oh yeah…those guys who were Democrats back in the 1800’s….yeah, blame Democrats.”

David Duke is from my home state of Louisiana. He’s been a national embarrassment for the state since the 1980’s. He’s run for president several times. He ran for governor and almost won. My favorite political slogan came from that race which is “Vote for the crook. It’s important.” His Grand Wizardness was running as a Republican and made the runoff against Democrat Edwin Edwards, a man chased out of the governorship more than once and later convicted of racketeering. Years earlier a journalist stated the only way Edwards would ever be elected governor again would be if his opponent was Adolph Hitler. Duke actually won an election as a state representative but he only served one term.

Duke started his political life as a Grand Wizard in the KKK, left the group but not their values. He’s even taken part in visiting Iran’s Holocaust denial party. Yes, they have one of those annually or something like that. That’s gotta be a lot of fun for a white supremacist to share hatred with Muslims.

Trump didn’t realize being endorsed by Sarah Palin was an embarrassment and came off as a joke. We satirists had a very difficult time making it funnier and more ridiculous than it actually was. Now Trump has been endorsed by Duke, which only sounds like a joke, who said “Voting against Donald Trump at this point, is really treason to your heritage.” There have also been white power robocalls on Trump’s behalf with one proclaiming “The white race is dying out. . . . Few schools anymore have beautiful white children as the majority.” I guess those schools have a bunch of ugly white kids. Who knows. If only all their mothers where white Slovenian supermodels.

Trump says he doesn’t know who Duke is (he’s lying as he made a statement against the guy in 2000), and that he’s not familiar with white supremacists. What? Not familiar with white supremacist? Maybe someone should make him familiar with Wikipedia.

Not being familiar with racist groups was his excuse on CNN Sunday morning when asked if he’d disavow the endorsement. He wouldn’t. But about two hours later (after someone probably told him that being associated with the KKK might seem kinda negative), Trump disavowed the Duke endorsement. He did it in a begrudging manner too like “OK you babies, I disavow, now watch me roll my eyes. Are you happy now? Leave me alone.” Why can’t a guy go out and troll the nation with racist comments without attracting Klansmen? Sheesh!

Marco Rubio says the conservative movement has no place for David Duke, white supremacists, bigots or racists. The Republican party and the conservative movement has spent decades attracting racists and now they want to pretend there’s no room for them? Do they honestly believe racists are voting Democrat?

Make America Great Again

Some Donald Trump supporters beat up a homeless Latino man in Boston. Trump stated that it was a horrible thing. That was after he was asked to clarify after his original reaction which was “my supporters are passionate.”

Megyn Kelly has received physical threats to which Trump stated that those making threats are passionate about America. Nice.

There’s really something dark and evil brewing out there. Trump is leading the GOP field for president and he’s leading all Democrats in some states, despite not really offering any details to any of his positions. So what is it that’s drawing people to him? It’s not policy.

Is it the divisiveness? Trump is running what’s probably the most negative presidential campaign in American history by practicing xenophobia. A lot of Americans are buying into it.

I really don’t like Nazi or Hitler comparisons but this is similar to before Hitler became chancellor of Germany. His supporters were beating up Jews. I’m sure the Hitler Youth were very passionate about their country.

I always roll my eyes when Republicans say Obama is divisive. Obama didn’t create the birther movement. To say Obama is divisive and support Trump is the hypocrisy.

Supporting Trump might be racist.

A Trump candidacy, and even his capturing the nomination, is a lot of fun and good for political cartoonists. The danger of a Trump presidency is something I will fight against. A Trump presidency would be the greatest disaster to ever hit this country and I don’t believe that’s a hyperbole.
