Tiki-Torch Youngkin

cjones11042021

So, here’s what happened in Virginia last week:

Let’s start with the back story. In 2017, a bunch of tiki-torch Nazis in polo shirts and Khakis went to Charlottesville to protest the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. They called it a “Unite the Right” rally. It sucked. These goons were emboldened by the election of Donald Trump because he ran on racist messages like Muslim bans, racist walls, deporting Mexicans, mosque surveillance, and the only people he’d allow to even legally immigrate to the United States would be white Norwegians and Melania’s parents. He also filled his staff with white nationalists like Steve Bannon and Stephen Baby Goebbels Miller. The Nazis really loved this, so they went to Charlotteville to stomp around with their tiki-torches while chanting, “Blood and soil” and “Jews will not replace us.” Yeah, Nazis are not nice.

There were counter-protesters, fights, and one of the Nazis murdered civil rights and anti-racism activist Heather Heyer. Nazis suck.

Last week, another group of guys in Khakis with tiki torches showed up in Virginia, but this time, they were going to an event for Glenn Youngkin, the Republican gubernatorial candidate. Youngkin was disgusted by this, called it a “false flag,” and blamed his Democratic opponent, former governor Terry McAuliffe, who also condemned it.

Later, the Lincoln Project, that anti-Trump Republican group, took credit for the stunt. This was not a “false flag” since the Lincoln Project owned it. Also, it should have been obvious to everyone that they weren’t real Nazis as one of the actors is a black guy. Real Nazis aren’t big fans of black people, but they do like using them as “black friends” as proof they’re not racist.

The Lincoln Project people issued a statement saying they pulled this stunt as a “way of reminding Virginians what happened in Charlottesville four years ago, the Republican Party’s embrace of those values, and Glenn Youngkin’s failure to condemn it.”

Youngkin did condemn the Lincoln Project for their stunt. He condemned the McAuliffe campaign even though it didn’t have anything to do with it. Condemning real Nazis, not so much.

This was a stupid campaign. What happened in Charlottesville was a horrible event and shouldn’t be used for stuff like political expression and parody except by political cartoonists. Get off my Kool-Aid.

Now, stupid people will still blame Terry McAuliffe for this. I even got some tweets from pro-Nazis blaming McAuliffe for the 2017 event and saying that was a “false flag.” So of course they’re blaming McAuliffe for the Lincoln Project stunt.

But the thing is, they made their point as Younkin condemned it while still NOT condemning real Nazis. The fake Nazis did not chant the vulgar slogans used by the real Nazis in 2017. Instead, they chanted, “We’re all in for Glenn.” While no real Nazis have shown up at any Youngkin events, at least not chanting and with tiki torches, but you can bet your ass they’re “all in for Glenn.”

Nazis will be voting for Youngkin tomorrow. As I used to give voting advice to right-wingers, “Don’t vote for the candidate endorsed by Putin,” I’ll give this advice to Virginians: Don’t vote for the guy who can’t condemn Nazis.

There’s more.

Don’t vote for the guy who Nazis will vote for.

Don’t vote for the guy who lies about school boards and the FBI going after parents.

Don’t vote for the guy who is pro-book burning.

Don’t vote for the guy whose campaign is using Trump’s election lie.

Don’t vote for the guy endorsed by Steve Bannon.

Don’t vote for the guy who refuses to talk about abortion (because he’s going to work to make it illegal).

Don’t vote for the guy who’s promising to take money out of public schools, giving it to private schools, and firing teachers.

And most of all, don’t vote for the guy who’s endorsed by Trump.

To simplify it and have less to remember, don’t vote for Republicans.

Republicans have a hard time condemning Nazis. Even when Donald Trump condemned the Charlottesville Nazis in 2017, he had to quibble and say there were “very fine people” on both sides. “Very fine people” don’t march with Nazis. Donald Trump later said he regretted condemning Nazis and as a way to make up for it, he gave the white nationalist group, the Proud Boys, a shout-out during a debate on national television. He’s also supported QAnon, another Nazi group, and has described them as people who “love their country.” When white nationalists attacked our Capital building, tried to hang Mike Pence, overthrow an election, and install Donald Trump as a fascist dictator, Trump told them they were “special” and that he loved them.

Republicans can’t condemn Nazis. Youngkin won’t because he’s afraid it’ll discourage them from voting. The Blues Brothers can condemn Nazis with Jake saying, “I hate Illinois Nazis.” I bet he’d hate Virginia Nazis too. I sure do.

So, to sum up, don’t vote for Republicans. Don’t vote for Nazi lovers. Don’t be like Republicans. Be more like the Blues Brothers.

Vote tomorrow and vote for Terry McAuliffe. He’s more like the Blues Brothers. Terry condemns Nazis.

The Do-Nazi Run Run Run

Cjones04262021

In 2017 at the Unite The Right rally, neo-Nazis goose-stepped around with their tiki torches chanting, “Jews will not replace us” and, “Blood and soil.” Donald Trump claimed there were good people marching with Nazis making those chants. They were there to protect a Confederate statue the city voted to remove. They were met by anti-protesters, people opposed to racism and fascism. The tiki-torch Nazis responded by brawling with the antifascists. One Nazi intentionally drove his car into a crowd of anti-racist protesters. In doing so, the Nazi murdered Heather Heyer and injured 19 others. The Nazi driver was convicted of first-degree murder along with several other charges and is now serving a life prison sentence.

Soon, depending on which fucknut red state you’re in, that type of first-degree murder will be legal.

That’s right, kiddos. Republicans across the nation aren’t just content with taking away your voting rights…they want to make it legal for Nazis to kill you. Or at the very least, punish you for protesting by taking away your rights to receive public assistance, student loans, government jobs, and even the right to run for elective office. Seriously. They are trying to silence you.

What’s funny is, all those ammosexuals horny for guns who refer to themselves as “constitutionalists” are pretty quiet about this assault on the First Amendment. In case you’re a Republican, the First Amendment is also in the Constitution.

Florida’s idiot governor, Ron DeSantis, is calling their anti-free speech law the “strongest anti-looting, anti-rioting, pro-law-enforcement piece of legislation in the country.” Here’s the thing, kids. It’s already illegal to loot and riot. What they’re doing here is making it illegal to assemble which means they’re making it illegal to protest. They’re making it illegal to say what they don’t want to hear. DeSantis has also tied this to protecting Confederate statues and any protester who harms one can serve 15 years in prison. Who do you think he’s talking to with that? He’s talking to Nazis.

They’re saying this is a pro-law-enforcement act, but most of these guys can’t summon up the word “terrorists” when it comes to those MAGA fuckers who attacked our nation’s Capitol building and attacked cops. When racist fucks like DeSantis talk about the “riots” and “looting,” they mention Portland. What they don’t mention is Washington, D.C.

One of these bills is actually from a Republican in the Minnesota legislature. So, while Derek Chauvin is going to jail for murdering a black man, if this bill passes, you can can legally murder those protesting the murder of a black man. There are over 80 bills being sponsored to silence protests in 34 states.

In Oklahoma and Iowa, they’re making it legal to run over protesters in your car if you’re afraid for your life. That’s ridiculous because white Republicans are always afraid of black people. Just watch Tucker Carlson tonight. That guy is probably doing his show in a diaper because he’s scaring the shit out of himself.

In fact, this has already happened in Oklahoma. Last year in Tulsa, a driver in a pickup hauling a horse trailer drove through a crowd of Black Lives Matter protesters. He injured several and even paralyzed one for life. Guess what. He wasn’t charged because he was “scared” of all the black people. Seriously. If there was a horse in that trailer and someone would have paralyzed it, they would have been charged. In Oklahoma, horses have more rights than black people.

Also, being afraid of Black Lives Matter protesters is bullshit. Look at me. I’m not Chuck Norris and I don’t carry a gun or even a pointy stick, yet I felt perfectly safe walking with Black Lives Matter for over 60 blocks in Manhattan and mingling with them in Washington, D.C. The only people who scared me were the cops. Did that give me the right to murder scary cops? Nope.

Black Lives Matter protesters will chant with a lot of profanity, but they’re some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Claiming you’re afraid of them says a lot more about you.

They’re calling these hate bills “anti-riot” bills, but here’s a little juicy tidbit: Over 96 percent of Black Lives Matter protests last year were peaceful. What’s more, they found that most violence was instigated by white supremacists crashing the protests, and cops. Wanna hear another interesting juicy tidbit? Sure, you do. One hundred percent of white nationalists neo-Nazi protests where Donald Trump spoke resulted in violence, terrorist attacks, and loss of lives.

MAGA fuckers are a lot scarier than Black Lives Matter or Antifa. A MAGA crowd is more likely to have terrorists in their groups and people who support terrorists. A Black Lives Matter and Antifa crowd is more likely to consist of vegetarians and people who want to go to Starbucks later.

Concerning the white nationalists responsible for the majority of terrorists attack in this nation, you don’t see Republicans sponsoring legislation to silence them. Why, silencing racists and other assorted fucknut Nazis like Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and the something-or-other percenters would be anti-Constitutional. Nazis have a right to assemble and protest. You don’t even see blue states trying to make that illegal. All the Proud Boys can protest all they want to “stop the steal” and for the right to kiss their sisters on the mouth, but it wouldn’t give you the right to run them over in a pickup hauling a horse trailer.

But just like with voting where Republicans only want white people to have a voice, they only want Nazis to have freedom of speech. If you believe black lives matter or you’re anti-fascism, they want to silence you. They want to make your voice illegal. At what point do they make my cartoons illegal?

I can’t speak for Black Lives Matter but I’m pretty sure these Nazi-coddling Republican motherfuckers will not silence them, and I assure you they won’t silence me either.

All the conservatives, like Tucker Carlson, who are upset a white cop has been convicted for murdering a black man now want to make it legal for Nazis to murder people protesting a white cop killing a black man. If Republicans had their way, the murder of Heather Heyer would have been legal.

Nazis Are Bad

cjones09152018

Last week during President Obama’s speech in Illinois, I tweeted, “There’s a black guy speaking on TV with total clarity and coherence. What the hell is this shit?” It received a lot of responses from people who miss a president who is eloquent, dignified, doesn’t engage in temper tantrums and childish insults, and can speak in complete sentences. The ability to enunciate probably threw quite a few people off.

Obama took several swipes at Trump’s presidency and asked at one point, “how hard can that be, saying Nazis are bad?”

Trump responded, but not by saying “Nazis are bad.” In fact, according to Bob Woodward’s book, Fear, when Trump finally did make a statement criticizing white supremacists after his speech praising Nazis, he said to then-staff secretary Rob Porter, “That was the biggest f—ing mistake I’ve made. You never make those concessions. You never apologize. I didn’t do anything wrong in the first place. Why look weak? I can’t believe I got forced to do that. That’s the worst speech I’ve ever given. I’m never going to do anything like that again.”

That example may be the biggest difference between Obama and Trump. Obama can say “Nazis are bad.” Trump praises them and later says he didn’t do anything wrong.

Trump claimed he fell asleep during Obama’s speech, which is something he probably does during security briefings. But, the old man who has trouble staying awake if it’s not Fox News must have caught some of it. He was visibly upset over Obama pointing out that this economic recovery began under his watch.

Trump tweeted, “‘President Trump would need a magic wand to get to 4% GDP,’ stated President Obama. I guess I have a magic wand, 4.2%, and we will do MUCH better than this! We have just begun.” Only problem is, Obama never said that.

He also tweeted, “If the Democrats had won the Election in 2016, GDP, which was about 1% and going down, would have been minus 4% instead of up 4.2%.” That is another lie. In fact, the GDP had risen higher under Obama than it ever has under Trump.

Trump retweeted former Congressman Jason Chaffetz who said, “Barack Obama talked a lot about hope, but Donald Trump delivered the American Dream. All the economic indicators, what’s happening overseas, Donald Trump has proven to be far more successful than Barack Obama. President Trump is delivering the American Dream.” Of course, there’s no substance to that and it’s all just Trump booty kissing. Chaffetz, if you recall, said he wouldn’t be able to look his 15-year-old daughter in the eye and explain why he supported Trump after the Access Hollywood tape came out. Nineteen days later, he endorsed Trump. Hopefully, for Chaffetz, he’s as good at gaslighting his daughter as Trump is with his supporters.

What Republicans conveniently forget is that they gave us a recession. It may have been the worst since the Great Depression. They also forget that Obama pulled us out of it with them fighting every measure he implemented to improve the economy. Today, they claim how horrible Obama was for the economy while giving Trump credit for the job he did.

Isn’t that just like Republicans? A black guy does a great job, and they give the credit to an old white dude. I always ask Trump supporters, if Obama was so bad then why are you taking all the credit for the job he did? They, being gaslighted, are convinced the economic recovery began January 21, 2017.

Republicans are just as bad with facts as they are at saying “Nazis are bad.” But then again, it’s hard to admit when you’re bad.

Stop N Go

Trump and other Republicans are real quick to use the term “radical Islamic terrorists.” They were very critical of President Obama for not using the term and his refusal to accuse an entire religion of being terrorists. But, when terrorism is committed by white Christians, Donald Trump isn’t sure who to blame.

After a white supremacist drove his car through a crowd of counter-protesters in Charlottesville, injuring 19 and killing one, Trump said blame belonged to “many sides.” Two days later he said, “OK. Nazis are bad.” A day after that, he said there were good people among the Nazis, the Klan, and other white supremacists. He also said there were bad people among the counter-protesters and blamed them for instigating the violence. He described the white supremacists as only being there to defend their heritage and said that they “had a permit.” Fact check: Both groups had permits. Go tell your crazy uncle.

Trump explained his delay to blame Nazis and the Klan as his need to have “all the facts.” This from a guy who has a plaque at one of his golf clubs commemorating a Civil War battle that never happened.

After the attack in Barcelona, Spain, which was also a vehicle driven into a crowd, Trump blamed “radical Islamic terrorists,” and then he started tweeting a story about General John Pershing executing Muslims by shooting them with bullets dipped in pigs blood. Trump didn’t wait as long to cast blame for Barcelona as he did for Charlottesville. Apparently, the only facts he needed was that brown people committed the attacks in Spain.

The man who needs “all the facts,” was promoting a myth with the Pershing story while also endorsing violating the Geneva Convention. This is why he’s an international embarrassment. OK, it’s one of many reasons.

Trump portrays himself as a tough guy when talking about how he wants to execute Islamic terrorists, but displays cowardice by refraining from criticizing white supremacists or criticizing them with caveats.

In just seven months, Donald Trump is a failed president. He’s complicit with Russia, his White House is in chaos, He hasn’t passed any major legislation, and he’s given comfort to Nazis and Grand Wizards. David Duke is a very happy person.

Trump’s racism has come as a surprise to Republicans who ignored his racist comments during his campaign. Who could have predicted that the guy who retweeted anti-Semitic statements, called Mexicans “rapists and murderers,” and said a judge of Mexican descent wasn’t qualified to preside over one of his many lawsuits, would be so ambivalent and appeasing of Nazis?

What’s equally disturbing are the people who still support Trump joining him in enabling Nazis and equating them with peace activists. Conservatives hate liberals so much, that they will side with Nazis. They’re already creating conspiracy theories for Charlottesville and repeating Trump’s new favorite word, “Alt-Left.” It’s nearly impossible to scroll down your Facebook news feed without feeling nauseous.

You can be a Republican and not like Nazis, right?

Culture Club

cjones08212017

This current debate about statues isn’t really about statues.

White Supremacists gathered in Charlottesville to protest the cities plan to remove a statue of Civil War general Robert E. Lee. The racists marched with the KKK and Nazis chanting “Jews will not replace us” and “blood and soil.” What the hell do statues honoring the Confederacy have to do with Nazis and Jews? Nothing. That’s because this isn’t really about the statues. For them, it’s about removing something offensive to African-Americans and people with a conscience. This is about White Supremacy.

The majority of these statues are monuments to racism. Most were erected during the Jim Crow and Civil Rights era. They were established to give comfort and support to the terrorism being inflicted on blacks.

Donald Trump has given comfort and support to White Supremacists, the KKK, and neo-Nazis. While equating peace activists with Nazis, he said that removal of Civil War monuments should be left to the local communities. Today, he abandoned that position and said it would be “foolish” to remove statues of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson and mused that monuments to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would be next. “Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments.” This coming from a man with a monument at his Virginia golf club, dedicated to a battle that never happened.

I think there’s a lot about Virginia that Donald Trump doesn’t know. For example, he doesn’t actually own the winery in Charlottesville he brags about owning.

In defending the Confederate statues, Trump adopted the same language and argument of the KKK. People like Trump, racists, don’t understand there’s a huge difference between our founding fathers and Robert E. Lee. Robert E. Lee was a traitor.

I’ve seen arguments that Washington and Jefferson were also traitors, but if there are any monuments for them in England then that’s their problem. You can heap all the plaudits and praise you desire upon Lee, but the man still broke an oath he swore to protect the United States in order to wage war upon it. The man waged a war to preserve slavery, even if you believe he hated slavery. He also authorized his Confederate troops to capture free blacks for enslavement while they were in Pennsylvania.

If you can respect that Robert E. Lee chose to fight the North in defense of his native Virginia and you view him as honorable, then why use him as a monument for hatred?

Another argument from conservatives is that removing statues is a trait of ISIS and the Taliban. That is true. The Taliban also opposes books, education, science, and a free press. That sounds more like Republicans. They’re also in favor of killing people who raise their voice against them. Hmmmm. Which group in the United States did that last weekend?

People like Trump cry that taking down the statues will erase history. Taking down the statues will not erase history. Those monuments are all over the place, yet their defenders have a piss-poor understanding of history. For example, Trump’s bogus story on General Pershing’s pig-blood bullets for Muslims.

Do you want to know history? Read when these statues went up. Read what else was going on at the time. Read why they were erected. Read the Confederate Constitution. It’s basically a cut-and-paste of the U.S. Constitution, with a lot of references to slavery included (I’ll give you a head start on learning about it. It was in favor of slavery).

Much like Trump’s approval ratings and credibility, the statues are crumbling.

Citizens of Baltimore were surprised to wake up to four of their statues having been removed during the night. Why in the hell are there Confederate statues in northern states anyway? Likewise, in Arizona, there’s an argument to remove the statues there, and they weren’t a state during the Civil War. Statues are being taken down in New Orleans. Lexington, Kentucky and Memphis, Tennessee are working on it. Alabama made a state law prohibiting the removal of these monuments, so Birmingham is blocking the view of one of their statues, arguing that the city didn’t exist during the Confederacy…so leave them out of this.

Liberal cities in the South are fighting to remove them. Let them. I’m sure plenty of these Confederate monuments will remain in the smaller towns where they won’t face any opposition. Let those stay. Pigeons gotta poop on something.

The defenders of the statues repeat the slogan “heritage not hate,” when they’re not shouting “blood and soil” and epithets toward Jewish people. But these monuments were erected in the name of hatred. Today, their biggest defender is the most hateful person in the United States in Donald Trump. Is this really your heritage? If it is, you might wanna trade.

These people deflect and defend Nazis. They would rather cry over a statue whose meaning they can’t grasp than cry over or mourn the death of Heather Heyer, who was killed by a White Supremacist last Saturday in Charlottesville.

I am a white guy from the South and I can tell you now, that’s not my heritage.

Candy And Nuts And Taylor Swift’s Butt

cjones08202017

Donald Trump does not care if I think he’s a racist. He doesn’t care if you or anyone in the media believes he’s a racist. If a major Republican makes a comment about Trump being a racist, then Trump will probably tweet insults at the guy. But, Donald Trump doesn’t care about us. He has his base…and they’re racist.

That is a major reason why the Trump presidency will only get worse. Trump is only president to his base of sycophants, racists, and Nazi sympathizers and enablers. If Trump left office tomorrow (don’t get excited) to focus on golf and Hope Hicks, he would still go down as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history. It’s only going to get worse.

Our narcissist president couldn’t let his phony condemnation on Monday go as is. It was disingenuous. Everyone who is not a Trump sycophant found it dishonest and felt Trump was forced to issue the condemnation of Nazis. On Tuesday, Trump proved all of us correct. He really sympathizes with racists and equates those fighting for equal and civil rights with Nazis.

Trump’s fellow Republicans are dismayed the man couldn’t condemn Nazis without putting equivocations into it. How could the president not even name the hate groups the first time? So, they all rushed out to condemn Nazis and state how everyone should oppose hate…without any of them mentioning the president’s name.

You don’t get points for condemning Nazis. It doesn’t make you brave and it’s easy. Nobody should be awarded for doing the simple thing. It’s not a profile in courage to condemn racists.

And this is where we are. We have cowards running our government. People are not upset that Donald Trump is a racist. They’re upset that the president of the United States is a racist. While it’s easy to say Nazis suck, Republicans are deathly afraid of the Nazi sympathizer in the White House.

Now we don’t really have a president anymore. We don’t have a leader with moral authority. You give that up when you sympathize with Nazis. You give it up when you compare Civil Rights activists with White Supremacists. You lose it when you equate the victim with her murderer. What we are stuck with is a narcissistic racist man-baby with the power of the presidency.

For the next three and a half years, whenever Trump attempts to give the impression he cares about something other than himself, or he’s trying to do the right thing, it will be disingenuous.

It will be as believable as him condemning people who grab Taylor Swift’s butt.

Creative notes and a plug: I had planned to draw this cartoon yesterday, but then Trump conducted his racist train wreck in the lobby of Trump Tower. I’m glad I drew the “permit” cartoon because, wow! The cartoon has over 800 Facebook shares at this point and this website got nearly 4,000 views yesterday. Go, me. I hope people feel as passionately about Taylor Swift’s butt. I know I do.

Frank proofreads the column for me. He’s a few hours behind me as he’s on the West Coast, so if you ever see a mistake here feel free to point it out. We may not have gotten around to making the corrections yet, or we may have missed it as we’re both stupid guys who are easily distracted by things like celebrity butts and sandwiches.

After finding all my goobs in yesterday’s column, Frank told me I should post a link to a story that mentioned me. So, here it is. The Washington Post gave me a small mention in an article yesterday about another cartoonist. It’s kinda cool because, hey, they thought of me.

Our Racist President

cjones08192017

Even though it’s been a while since we’ve had “normal,” yesterday was still a day when you were in disbelief at what you were seeing.

What we saw was the president of the United States display rampant racism and threw shade and cover for White Supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, and Neo-Nazis.

Saturday, the president blamed both sides for the violence in Charlottesville. After heated criticism, he returned two days later on Monday to condemn the racists, so we could all make believe our president wasn’t a racist. It didn’t sit well with him. It seemed forced under pressure. On Tuesday, the president proved that to be true and revealed his true feelings on the matter of race.

It’s often been said that when people show you who they are, believe them. Donald Trump showed us who he truly is and it’s not pretty. Before making comments on Monday criticizing racists, Trump attacked a black CEO for leaving his manufacturing council. After condemning racists, Trump retweeted tweets from a racist conspiracy theorist and floated the idea of pardoning the most racist sheriff in the nation, Joe Arpaio of Arizona who was convicted for incarcerating brown people on the suspicion they may be in the nation illegally. Apparently, none of that was good enough for Trump to reaffirm his racist base that he had their back.

Trump was in the lobby of his golden tower in New York City and was supposed to make comments on infrastructure when he took questions from the press, which was a surprise to everyone, including his staff.

First, he said he didn’t condemn Nazis on Saturday because he needed all the facts. The man who waged the birther campaign, claimed he saw thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrate 9/11, claims millions voted illegally, that he had the largest electoral victory and inauguration crowd ever, and that Barack Obama wiretapped him, needed all the facts.

This is a man who reacted swiftly to the Pulse nightclub shooting to use it as an argument for a ban on Muslim refugees, despite the fact the shooter was born in the United States. Trump has tweeted after terrorist attacks in the past way before he had “facts.”

What information did he need on Saturday before he could condemn the KKK and Nazis? Did he need a briefing that Nazis are bad?

Trump defended the racist protesters in that they were fighting against Confederate statues being removed. First, these protests aren’t really about the statues. They are an excuse for racists to march. He said, “Not all of those people were Neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch.” First, if anyone ever tells you “believe me, that check won’t bounce” while giving you a check, that check’s going bouncing.

He claimed there were good people among the White Supremacists. You can have the viewpoint that those statues should remain in place, but if you’re marching with people screaming “blood and soil” and “Jews will not replace us,” you’re NOT a good person. You’re an asshole. What the hell does the statues have to do with Jews anyway?

I saw a political cartoon from a racist conservative arguing for the statues and it stated, “those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.” Hey, good point. On that note, the racist cartoonist should learn some history about those statues and the fact most of them were erected during the Jim Crow era in the early 1900s and during the Civil Rights era of the 1950s and 60s. The KKK is marching so it seems we are doomed to repeat history. The Nazis have also returned and if we’re to repeat history there, they lose.

Trump went on to criticize both sides for the violence in Charlottesville, and blamed the “alt-left.” I haven’t heard anything that stupid since yesterday when a stupid conservative friend of mine on Facebook posted a Ben Shapiro column referring to some protesters as “black nationalists.” If being stupid is painful, that would explain why these guys are so angry.

You’re going to hear the term “alt-left” much more in the future, much like you’re hearing the term “snowflakes” now. It’s a term Sean Hannity loves, which is where Trump most likely got it from.

A note on this “alt-left” horseshit: The Alt-Right coined the term “alt-right.” They also created “alt-left.” Liberals are not calling themselves that because it doesn’t mean anything. To me, “alt-left” describes liberals who love Nirvana and Pearl Jam. It doesn’t exist, like “fake news.”

Trump claimed the “alt-left” was “very violent.” Trump accused people he called the “alt-left” of “swinging clubs” as they “came charging at, as you say, at the alt-right.” He said some of the right-wing members of the crowd in the Virginia park were “bad.” But he added that the other side came “charging in without a permit and they were very, very violent.” Trump must have missed the video where the racists were trying to kill African-Americans in a parking garage, or the fact that a Nazi drove a car into a crowd and killed a young woman, Heather Heyer.

Trump went on to ask “what’s next” regarding to removing statues. He asked if George Washington and Thomas Jefferson statues will be removed since they were slave owners. The man doesn’t understand history or why the Confederate statues are offensive.

Washington and Jefferson did not commit treason and fight against the United States. The Confederacy did and fought to preserve slavery. Again, most of those statues were erected to intimidate African-Americans and to let them know who was still in charge. They were placed to defy Civil Rights.

A documentary from HBO’s Vice News Tonight titled “Charlottesville: Race and Terror,” follows Christopher Cantwell, an unabashed white supremacist who spews racist invective while traveling around with a band of neo-Nazis. In the footage, Cantwell says there will be more rallies and protests and states, “We’re not non-violent, we’ll fucking kill these people if we have to.” About Heather Heyer’s death, he said “I’d say it was worth it. The fact that nobody on our side died, I’d go ahead and call that points for us.” He also says he expects more people to die in the future.

Why do Cantwell and his fellow racists feel so confident? Why do they feel so good about it? Because of Donald Trump. David Duke thanked Trump for his support on Tuesday. They got the message and they’re interpreting it as “make America great again.”

That’s what they’re doing to because they brought it to Charlottesville. A beautiful and wonderful place, Charlottesville is not home to this mess. Charlottesville should be known for UVA, The Center for Politics, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and The Dave Matthews Band. It’s not home to Nazis.

A lot of people accuse Republicans of being racist. George W. Bush and Mitt Romney were hit with that accusation. They may not have cared that much about minorities, but they were not racists. Most Republicans are not either. But, a lot of Republicans don’t find racism a deal breaker as they voted for Donald Trump.

Donald Trump is a racist, and those who continue to support him, or deflect and throw cover for Nazis (“but Obama and statues”) are too. Republicans like Jeff Flake and Marco Rubio lambasted him yesterday. More Republicans need to realize this is not a partisan issue. You can be a Republican and find the thought of lying with Nazis disgusting. Donald Trump does not.

Donald Trump showed us who he is and we need to believe him. It’s time for you to show us who you are. When your friends, family, and neighbors defend Trump they’re showing you who they are.

You better believe them.

Diverse Viewpoints

cjones08182017

Last week, an engineer at Google circulated an internal memo suggesting that biological factors were part of the cause for the gender gap in the tech industry and that the company should stop alienating conservatives. It landed about as well as that Jerry Maguire memo suggesting the sports agency should practice ethics. Just like Jerry, the sexist Google dude was Googling for a new job.

A lot of conservatives rushed to defend the guy and bash Google for firing him. That’s what horrible people do. They defend other horrible people. They accuse Google of not tolerating diverse opinions. This isn’t an argument over whether ketchup should be squirted on hot dogs or not (though those savages should hit the streets too). A company that’s known for innovation and building toward the future doesn’t want to discourage future talent from coming on board because they may be perceived as sexist. And trust me on this: You want to hire women. Every woman I have ever met is smarter than I am….except for women who voted for Donald Trump.

Believing woman are biologically inferior to work for a software company is a view that only those living in caves should possess. What if the guy circulated a memo stating that some races were biologically inferior? At the very least, you don’t want to keep a guy around who’s stupid enough to publish that memo.

Many conservatives are also defending the Nazis who are suddenly finding themselves unemployed after pictures of them marching at the Charlottesville hatefest were published. One guy was actually fired from a hot dog place. Nobody wants a Nazi handling their wiener. Just like the Google dude whined that he really wasn’t sexist, some Nazis swore they weren’t really Nazis. They just really hate blacks, Jews, gays, liberals, and they enjoy driving out of state to goosestep in khakis while holding a Tiki torch.

Nobody wants to be associated with Nazis. The Tiki torch company issued a statement distancing themselves from Nazis. I expect companies that produce polo shirts and khakis to come out next. They issued stronger condemnations of Nazis than the president.

Horrible people continued to defend horrible people and cried about diversity in the workplace. Well, I’m sure those conservatives wouldn’t mind having a conversation at the water cooler with a Nazi. It’s done daily in the White House. But, most normal people don’t want to hang around Nazis.

You don’t have to go so far with the right-wing crap to be a Nazi for me not to want to hang around with you. If your first statement, comment, post on social media about Charlottesville was mentioning Obama, Antifa, liberals, or any other cover to protect your Nazi pals, I don’t want to associate with you. Basically, you suck at life and you’re an asshole.

You’re probably the type of asshole to scream about diversity in the workplace when Nazis and sexists are fired but want Colin Kaepernick banned from the NFL because he refuses to stand for the National Anthem.

Kaepernick is a good football player who can’t find a job in the NFL because of his stance against standing during a song. His refusal to conform to nationalism has rubbed many the wrong way and cowardly team owners are afraid of a negative backlash if they sign him. Beating up a woman will get you suspended for six games, but silently protesting police brutality against black Americans will not be tolerated. How dare he have a social conscience.

In case you haven’t noticed, what happened in Charlottesville displayed a lot of reasons not to stand for the National Anthem. If you have a problem with people who don’t want to conform to your nationalism, then I suggest that you sit down and shut the hell up.

Personal note about yesterday’s cartoon: I didn’t write a blog for yesterday’s cartoon because I didn’t want to distract from it. I wanted that cartoon to speak for itself, and all by itself.

I had a couple of other ideas yesterday but I wasn’t in love with them. Shortly after midnight on Monday morning that idea hit me, which is how all ideas hit me. It’s like someone shows up and I’m seeing who they are. At first, I didn’t realize I wanted to draw it until the full image came into my head. It started with the bumper sticker, which I thought was just OK. Then, the scene kinda zoomed out in my head and I was like “oooh. I gotta draw that.”

I thought it might be one of those with the potential to receive the most hits to the website, most shares, likes, comments…but it didn’t work out that way. I’m not complaining. It just goes to show that I can’t predict how well my cartoons will be received.

But, a lot of individuals really appreciated the cartoon. On top of the shares, likes, comments, clicks on the site, there were a few donations. So whether you donated $1.00 or more, thank you so much for helping me continue to do this. I’ll be sending out a couple more prints this week. If you have not received an email from me yet, you will. I loves ya’.

White Nationalist Rally

cjones08162017

I can assure you that the images you’re seeing today are not Charlottesville. Most of this hatred is imported. David Duke has flown in to support the hate groups and stated, “We are going to fulfill the promises of Donald Trump. That’s what we believed in.” He said, “we’re taking our country back.”

“Take our country” back is a slogan white people repeated throughout the Obama era. We know what that means. We also know that the White Nationalists in Charlottesville have been encouraged by Donald Trump.

Trump tweeted out that what’s happening in Charlottesville is “sad.” I’m surprised he didn’t post a frownie face imoji. Trump later condemned the hate and violence of “many sides.” He didn’t call out the White Nationalists, which is what this entire protest was about. They started the protest. This entire thing was initiated by racists screaming about white rights and Donald Trump didn’t call them out.

Trump calls out Hispanic groups by name. He calls out black groups. When white racists do bad things his response is “they all do bad things and they should stop. Sad!” Republicans got upset that President Obama wouldn’t use the specific words “radical Islamic terrorism.” I’m sure they’re OK that Donald Trump can’t call out his base of White Nationalists.

At this time, there is one dead and 19 injured in Charlottesville, and Trump is partly to blame. It will get worse tonight.

Donald Trump ran on a campaign of hate. He started his campaign by calling Mexicans “rapists and murderers.” He has staffed his White House with the racists Breitbart faction Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, and Sebastian Gorka.

When Trump unveiled his initiative to restrict “legal” immigration to white-English speakers, he had Miller explain the policy because racists would love that. Trump has fought hard to ban refugees from Muslim nations entering our country.

Donald Trump is a racist, and he’s afraid of angering his racist base. If anything, he’s cultivated it.

Creative notes: I planned to take today off, but I really wanted to hit these fuckers. I’m angry they pulled this bullshit in my state.
