Border Patrol

Yippee-Ki-Yay Haiti

cjones09242021

Images and videos have been posted online showing Border Patrol agents on horseback corralling Haitian immigrants as if they were cattle. Some of the agents were waiving reigns at the immigrants which have brought accusations that the agents were whipping the immigrants.

We are having a crisis at the border as thousands of Haitians are trying to enter the United States from Mexico after traveling thousands of miles through South America. Neither Mexico or the United States is offering asylum to these immigrants. President Joe Biden, who promised a more humane treatment of refugees, has continued some of the Trump-era policies on immigration. He’s deported about a thousand immigrants to Haiti and is now planning at least seven flights a day of more deportations. Haiti is expecting at least 14,000 deported refugees to arrive in their nation. Refugees don’t seek asylum in Haiti. Refugees seek asylum FROM Haiti. If these refugees were Cuban, all they’d have to do is enter the United States and claim asylum. But since they’re NOT from Cuba, and instead, from Haiti, they get deported.

These images of Border Patrol agents playing cowboy and treating black immigrants harshly, shouting curses at them while they’re being corralled, looks like another continuation of Donald Trump and Stephen Miller’s border policies.

President Biden has replaced Trump’s director of Border Patrol, but he needs to do much more to reform this agency. Why? Because Border Patrol has a long history of being corrupt and racist. They were corrupt and racist before Trump became president.

For example, the guy Biden removed last June supported Trump’s racist border wall. This guy was the head of Border Patrol and that agency knows the wall is just a racist prop. The Border Patrol’s union supports the racist wall. Previously, the union didn’t support the wall because they knew it didn’t work…but when Trump attached racism to it, they jumped on the racist Trump train.

During the Trump era, Border Patrol agents were filmed destroying jugs of water left by human rights activists for immigrants. You see, the desert is hot and the people coming here have walked through it for hundreds of miles. Even if they entered this nation illegally, they still don’t deserve to die of thirst…or die at all. Destroying water left for immigrants is a dick move. Anyone doing this should be charged for attempted murder.

The Border Patrol has a 100-mile limit jurisdiction into the U.S. from the border yet they often stop vehicles outside of their jurisdiction. They’re real fond of pulling over Greyhound buses outside that 100-mile zone from the border and without warrants. A Greyhound bus is private property. By the way, two thirds of the U.S. population lives within 100 miles from the United States border. Border Patrol has enough people to fuck with inside their jurisdiction.

Border Patrol agents have been busted denying food, water, medicine, and basic decent treatment to immigrants in their custody. Immigrants have died in their custody, even children.

Border Patrol agents have been accused of verbal, physical and psychological abuse. We know they have separated families intentionally and as a policy. The family separation was an intentional Trump policy. Children in cages was a Border Patrol practice.

You know the United States demands human rights of other nations. We criticize places like Cuba, North Korea, China, Iran, etc, over their human rights records and demand improvement. Meanwhile, Amnesty International screams at us over our treatment of immigrants. Also, we get screamed at by other nations for the death penalty. Civilized nations don’t execute people like it’s the stone age. Also, there’s Texas and Florida.

Then there’s the corruption. In 2017, Border Patrol gave Accenture Federal Services a $297 million contract to hire 7,500 people over five years. A year later, after being paid  $13.6 million of the contract, the private company had only hired two people. In case you’re a Republican, two is less than 7,500. This contract was awarded to fulfill Trump’s demands that Border Patrol hire 5,000 more agents and 10,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Fun fact: Two out of three applicants to become Border Patrol agents flunk their polygraph tests. Apparently, only corrupt racist fucks want to be Border Patrol agents.

Some Border Patrol agents, whose responsibility includes combating the immigrant mule trade, are themselves mules. One agent, who was actually an undocumented immigrant, used a fake birth certificate to get the job, then used the job to smuggle over 100 immigrants into the United States. He even used a Border Patrol truck for his smuggling. So apparently, some of these guys are getting through the agency’s polygraph test or it didn’t ask, “Are you yourself an undocumented immigrant looking to use this job to smuggle in more undocumented immigrants in a Border Patrol truck?” Maybe add that to the test or just stop allowing “squirrel” to be an acceptable answer to any question.

Another agent was caught on a wiretap bragging he smuggled 30 to 50 immigrants at a time. Other Border Patrol agents were caught harboring undocumented immigrants. Some Border Patrol agents were harboring immigrants to have sex with them. Add that to the polygraph. “Do you intend to rape immigrants?” Border Patrol would be looking for “no,” right?

What we need to do is corral every Border Patrol agent, find the racists, deviants, and corrupt members and brand all of them. And everyone who fails the Border Patrol polygraph can probably get jobs at Mar-a-Lago.

President Biden promised we were going to be better than Trump. So…when do we start doing that?

Gabba Gabba Haiti

Cjones09222021

Thousands of Haitians have come to the United States border seeking a better life for themselves and their children. They heard it was easier to cross the border now that Joe Biden is president and the racist guy was thrown out of office after being defeated in the 2020 presidential election. They were wrong.

Yes, the new guy is much better than the previous guy, but the new guy is still using policies enacted by the old guy. The United States of America should not be implementing a policy crafted by the xenophobic Stephen Baby Goebbels Miller. Policies like that should be trashed and sent to the worst place in the world, which is probably Haiti..or Indiana. Instead, we are sending the Haitians at our border back to Haiti.

Sure, they’re from Haiti but most of them haven’t been in Haiti for over a decade. I’m from Louisiana (mostly) and I haven’t been back there in nearly two decades. And if you deported me back to Louisiana, I’d be pretty pissed.

If you’re a buttmunch, then you probably think they all left Haiti last week and they’re just now arriving at our southern border. The truth is, most of them left in 2010 after a devastating earthquake hit their nation that shares a Caribbean island with the Dominican Republic. Where did all these asylum-seeking Haitians go? They went to South America with most of them landing in Chile and Brazil.

While Haiti, Chile, and Brazil are each in Latin America by location, they’re not all Latinos (this is debated a lot). It often comes down to language and skin color. Spanish is the official language of Chile. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. And in Haiti, they have two official languages, French and Haitian Creole. By race, Brazil is 47 percent white and 43 percent mixed. Chile is nearly 90 percent white. Haiti is 95 percent black. So guess what immigrant Haitians encountered in Chile and Brazil? Yup. Racism. That stuff is everywhere.

So, with Joe Biden in the White House, Haitians in South America thought now would be a great time to abandon the lives they’ve created over the past decade and go somewhere to escape racism. They chose the United States. Ugh. Bad call. Did I mention Baby Goebbels was writing immigration policy? Did I mention we’re still using it? Isn’t this why we got rid of the last guy? I mean, one of the major reasons why?

So, the Biden administration, which is supposed to be more humane than the last administration full of Nazis, Klansmen, and fuckers, is exporting all these Haitians back to Haiti. That is a messed-up deal.

Haiti is not a great place to be. There are earthquakes, massive crime, poverty (poorest nation in the western hemisphere), a very low literacy rate, and the prime minister was recently assassinated. I once went out with a girl who had been living in Haiti (back in the 80s) and she told me it was basically legal to murder someone by hitting them with your car, and the biggest hassle from it was filling out insurance forms for damage to your car. A car can be more valuable than a human life in Haiti.

I would not want to send my worst enemy to Haiti. Haiti is so bad, I wouldn’t want to send Stephen Miller to Haiti….wait a minute. Yes, I would. I would love to send Stephen Miller to Haiti. Did I mention 95 percent of Haiti is black? Did I mention they don’t speak a lot of English? He’ll love it there. He can even take his new bride, Frau Farbissana, and their new baby, who is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being born with a Hitler mustache and a can of spray-on hair. How do we make these deportations happen?

Joe Biden is exporting these people back to Haiti under a Trump policy. Yes, a policy written by Stephen Miller. And Haiti, expecting at least 14,000, says they can’t take all of them at once. This is a poverty-ravaged nation that’s still recovering from an earthquake from a decade ago. Haiti has no place to put these immigrants being deported by Biden. These Haitians are about become refugees in their home nation, which is how a lot of black U.S. citizens feel in the U.S. They took a huge gamble leaving jobs and homes in Chile and Brazil to come to the U.S. Now, they’re finding themselves back in Haiti. Most of these people would rather be sent back to Chile and Brazil, even with the racism factor. It’s still better than Haiti. Some of them might even be OK with Indiana (which is another place we can send the Goebbels, er…Miller family where they’d be really comfortable).

And while there are thousands of non-English speaking black people in a humanitarian crisis, most of our nation is fixated on one missing white girl. Stephen Miller’s out looking for her now.

Creative note: As you may know, I like to draw my cartoons in the morning. It’s nice to kick them out early and have the rest of the day to goof off and write my next cartoon. Fact: Goofing off helps write cartoons. Pull my finger.

Delivering the cartoons in the A.M. is also advantageous to my clients as they can place it on their pages and sites for their next day’s edition. And, it helps with big mondo national reprints so my readers can be fooled into believing I’m a big cheese. The best way for me to work with this is to have my idea before going to bed so I can be free to have nightmares about zombies and taking out the garbage in my boxer/briefs (it’s a real fear of mine because I’m often at home not wearing pants). I usually won’t go to bed until I’ve decided on an idea. Last night turned into this morning. I got the idea around 2:00 A.M. and my first thought was, “Ooh.” My second thought was, “I can’t do this. It’s really insensitive.” My third thought was, “Wait a moment…that’s what I do.”

I was afraid proofer Laura would say, “Ugh…but you’re going to do what you’re going to do.” I get that from her sometimes along with, “Put on some pants.” But instead, she said, “Yeah, baby.” OK, she didn’t say, “Yeah, baby” but she liked the cartoon. Even though Laura liked it, the cartoon has already been criticized by a few readers. I’m OK with that. It’s what I do…like not wearing pants.

Where’s The Pro-Life Crowd?

cjones05242019

Earlier this week, a 16-year-old boy from Guatemala died after being apprehended at the U.S. Border. He is the fifth migrant child since December to die after being apprehended at the U.S. border.

The boy was “found unresponsive” during a routine welfare check Monday morning at Weslaco Station, the facility where he was being held. The boy was taken into custody after crossing the U.S. border in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley on May 13 and was due to be moved into custody of the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement, which oversees care of unaccompanied or separated migrant children after they are initially processed by immigration authorities.

Do you have right-wing whackanoodles among your friends and followers on social media? If so, have they been going ape in rejoicing about the numerous abortion bans taking place in red states across the nation? Of course they have. Now, go visit their pages and see how much outrage these “pro-life” people have over children dying in U.S. custody under Donald Trump’s child-separation policy. What’s that you say? Crickets?

Crickets.

These people are not pro-life. They’ll scream for a fetus but they don’t care about feeding a child, providing housing, free lunches, healthcare, etc. They’ll celebrate drug testing welfare recipients and denying a child food if a little marijuana is traced in one of their parents. They do not care about children.

They only care about controlling women and legislating their religious morality upon the rest of us, while not actually possessing any ethics or principles.

These people are not the champions of justice. They’re the champions of pain, suffering, and cruelty. They’re the champions of hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance.

To be “pro-life,” you need to defend life, not just when you believe it begins. You need to defend the lives of children, no matter where they’re from.

There should be no borders when it comes to defending the life of a child. The pro-life crowd stops at the border of your uterus.

Happy New Year, Baby

cjones01022019

Out of all the god-awful, horrifying horrible stuff Donald Trump has inflicted upon this nation, and there’s been a lot, perhaps his greatest offense has been his administration’s treatment of migrant children.

Don’t get me wrong. The past two years has been one nightmare after stupid racist nightmare, with each new one being worse than the last. While the disaster and deaths in Puerto Rico may be the first Trump tragedy that comes to many minds, that situation was one of neglect, incompetence, and a total lack of caring. But, what Trump has done concerning families and children crossing our southern border is intentional. Trump and the racist dregs he’s staffed his administration with setting out to traumatize children as a way to discourage foreigners from not just entering our nation illegally, but from seeking asylum.

Donald Trump is a horrible person. He designed a horrible policy that was implemented by people nearly as horrible as he is. Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions got giggly while explaining the new policy and Homeland Security Director Kirstjen Nielsen has blamed the parents of children who died while in the custody of Border Patrol.

When this issue is discussed, or I post a cartoon on it, there’s always some Trump sycophant who’ll point out that Obama separated families too. That argument is a deflection and a case of whataboutism. It doesn’t defend Trump in any way. Yes, Obama’s administration separated families, as in, “some” families. The Obama administration didn’t create a policy that EVERY family had to be separated. That is exactly what the Trump administration has done.

Donald Trump and the evil idiots of his administration firmly believe that a policy of cruelty is what will make America great again. When you display to the entire world that you’ll throw children in cages, traumatize them by separating them from their parents, deny people the right to request asylum, and implement policies that actually lead to the deaths of seven and eight-year-old kids, what you’re doing is not making America great.

There are a lot of people supporting Trump who believes this agenda of cruelty is best for America. Near the end of 2018, the majority of the nation rejected Trumpism and his goal of making the United States a more crueler and evil place. They rejected the darkness of the Trump administration and took the first steps toward the light. Hopefully, in 2019, the light gets brighter.

Old Man 2018 is an asshole. When Baby New Year arrives, he better enter from the north as the racists aren’t manning that border.

Everyone in Washington should make it their New Year’s resolution to end the incarceration, punishment, and traumatization of children.

A Grim Welcome

cjones01012019

For the second time in December, a child has died in Border Patrol custody. For the second time in December, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen deflected blame from her department and placed it on immigrants.

An eight-year-old Guatemalan boy, who Trump would say was at a “marginal age” for believing in Santa Claus, was detained with his father after illegally crossing the border near El Paso, Texas on December 18. DHS said he was transferred to a hospital the morning of December 24 after coughing and exhibiting flu-like symptoms. The child had a high fever, was diagnosed with a cold and released back to border agents with prescriptions for antibiotics and Tylenol. Later that night, Border Patrol agents rushed him back to the hospital after he appeared nauseous and lethargic. There was no emergency medical technician on site, officials said. The child lost consciousness on the way and was pronounced dead at the hospital just before midnight. He died on Christmas day.

DHS won’t say whether staffing in the El Paso facility was affected by the federal government shutdown.

A seven-year-old girl, also from Guatemala, died earlier this month from dehydration, shock, and liver failure after being in Border Patrol’s custody for eight hours. She was buried on Christmas day.

In a written statement, Nielsen said, “Our system has been pushed to a breaking point by those who seek open borders. Smugglers, traffickers, and their own parents put these minors at risk by embarking on the dangerous and arduous journey north.”

Nielsen is blaming the children’s deaths on their parents and Democrats. She definitely fits in Trump’s heartless administration. You’d have a better chance of finding a salad in Trump’s White House than compassion and empathy.

Trump’s get-tough policies on immigrants are the worst our nation has to offer the world. In addition to traumatizing children by separating them from their families, now they’re dying in Border Patrol custody. The buck does not stop at this president’s desk, especially when it comes to the deaths of brown people, whether they’re American citizens in Puerto Rico or immigrants crossing our southern border.

For the past several months, the Trump administration has been routinely turning asylum seekers away from ports of entry and telling them to wait, a practice called “metering” that the administration claims is based on a lack of capacity at ports. What Trump’s defenders, and fans of harsh treatment of immigrants don’t seem to understand, is that it’s legal to ask for asylum. Not accepting immigrants at the port of entry is forcing them to cross illegally, which can be much more dangerous. The Trump administration should be blamed for creating conditions that kill people.

Texas Representative Joaquín Castro said, “There is no reason that President Trump should be asking to fund a border wall when we are missing basic humanitarian pieces.”

What we’re missing is a humanitarian as president.

Agua

cjones12212018

A seven-year-old Guatemalan girl died in the Custody of Border Patrol (CBP) last week. The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) statement has only raised more questions than it answers.

The girl and her father were apprehended with a large group of migrants in a remote span of the New Mexico Desert. Reportedly, she hadn’t eaten or consumed water for several days. After being in the custody of CBP for over eight hours, she started having seizures. She was transported to an El Paso hospital where she died of dehydration and shock.

Asked if food and water were given to the child, DHS only replied with blame for the father for taking his daughter on the journey to the United States through dangerous elements. She didn’t die on the journey. She died in Border Patrol custody. She died when she was their responsibility.

CBP and DHS need to take responsibility. If someone’s life is in danger after they’re apprehended, saving their life should take precedent over detainment. The Trump administration needs to take responsibility too.

White House spokesperson Hogan Gidley said the administration isn’t to blame for the child’s death. Gidley said, “Does the administration take responsibility for a parent taking a child on a trek through Mexico to get to this country? No.” He then heaped additional blame on Democrats saying, Congress should “pass some common-sense laws to disincentivize people from coming up from the border and encourage them to do it the right way, the legal way, then those types of deaths, those types of assaults, those types of rapes, the child smuggling, the human trafficking, that would all come to an end. And we hope Democrats join the president.

While the U.S. government will only consider claims of asylum from migrants presenting themselves at ports of entry, the Trump administration has disincentivized them from doing so, forcing them to wait in Mexico for lengthy, indeterminate periods of time before considering their claims.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen also avoided addressing concerns about how CBP treated the girl but instead characterized her death as “just a very sad example of the dangers of this journey.” Nielsen is a sad example of a cabinet member.

The Guatemalan girl’s death comes months after a toddler died of an illness she developed at an Immigration and Border Customs Enforcement facility in Dilley, Texas.

Aura Bogado, an immigration reporter with Reveal, sent a tweet detailing conditions in the “hieleras,” the Spanish word for “icebox” that detainees and guards alike use to describe CBP’s frigid holding cells.

She wrote, “This is the water people are forced to drink. It’s grey and it’s disgusting. It routinely makes people sick. There isn’t even a place to dry your hands after you wash them. Everything is full of fecal matter.”

Cynthia Pompa, an advocacy manager for the American Civil Liberties Union’s Border Rights Center, said the girl’s death “represents the worst possible outcome when people, including children, are held in inhumane conditions.”

“Lack of accountability, and a culture of cruelty within CBP have exacerbated policies that lead to migrant deaths. In 2017, migrant deaths increased even as the number of border crossings dramatically decreased.” Pompa added.

There is a culture of cruelty within CBP, as Border Patrol agents are known for pouring out water in the desert left for migrants by humanitarian groups.

The conditions migrants are escaping from are so bad that Donald Trump’s threats and racist fear mongering isn’t discouraging them. People seeking asylum, at least those below our southern border, know they won’t be welcomed with open arms. Now, it seems they can’t be met with compassion or humanity.

We’re the United States, and we’re supposed to be better than this. Before January 20, 2017, we were.

Trump Toys With The Border

cjones11052018

When Trump talks about the “caravan invasion,” he’s not trying to protect the nation. He’s only trying to get you to vote for a Republican. This has nothing to do with border security. This is an election trick.

Since Trump and the Republicans don’t have any accomplishments to run on, they have to run on lies (Republicans will save pre-existing conditions coverage) and fear (scary brown people coming to kill you and steal your lake cottage).

Trump and Republicans talk about how the caravan is staged, but if anything is staged, it’s him sending the military to the border days before the election. There’s no invasion for the military to meet, and if there were, the invaders would be moms in flip-flops and children with milk bottles. The military is not police, and they can’t detain anyone. There’s doubt the caravan will even make it to our border.

The biggest threat the military faces on the border is actually domestic. Leaked documents reveal that the military is concerned with violent protesters from the left and the right, and volunteer militias who may become violent and who have stolen military gear in the past.

From the papers, the military is preparing to defend against an “estimated 200 unregulated armed militia members currently operating along the Southwest Border.” There are reports of these “patriotic” unregulated militias stealing National Guard equipment during deployments.

This is an abuse of our military by Trump. Treating the military like toy soldiers you can play with for an election stunt is much more disrespectful than kneeling during the National Anthem. Trump said the military should treat people throwing rocks as if they have rifles, and was authorizing soldiers to shoot the rock throwers. The next day, he claimed he never said that.

What we need to see is just how much of a crisis this “caravan invasion” is after Tuesday. Will the military still be there? Will Trump keep screaming and lying about it at the rate he is now? Will it even be an issue? Will Trump pretend it’s the first he’s ever heard of it?

Trump has shown us there’s no depth he won’t sink to and nothing he won’t abuse for his own selfish gain. Instead of sending 5,000 soldiers to the border he should be sending 5,000 lawyers and judges to help with processing refugee applications.

Trump believes the military is his own personal toy. What he’s revealing is that his brain is emptier than Mr. Potato Head’s.

This Is MAGA

cjones06242018

A recent Quinnipiac Poll states 65% of American voters oppose the Trump policy of separating migrant children from their parents. The same study finds 55% of Republican voters are heartless, inhumane, unsympathetic, troglodyte, subhuman mongrels you don’t want to be stuck in an elevator with.

And there you have it. The majority of Trump supporters and MAGA heads love the idea of tearing brown families apart. It’s why Attorney General Jeff Sessions is giddy when explaining the hateful policy. It’s why Trump adviser and white supremacist advocate Stephen Miller is taking credit for the idea. It’s why Director of Homeland Security, whose first name is as traditional Native American as Sacagawea and Pocahontas, Kirstjen Nielson can claim she’s totally unaware of pictures, videos, and recordings of these children crying for their mothers. When I was a kid, Jaws scared the hell out of me but I couldn’t forget I saw it.

A racist base is why the President of the United States, who has married two immigrants, can shed all appearances of governing for all the people, and hold migrant children hostage until Congress gives him ten billion dollars to break his campaign promise of Mexico paying for it, and build a wall on the border with Mexico. Hillary was right. These people are deplorable, and they’re proud of it. Trump his holding the children hostage and blaming Democrats for making him do it.  This policy is so heartless and inhumane, that even Ted Cruz is against it and trying to stop it.

The New York Times editorial board asks, “when did caging kids become the art of the deal?”

The thing is, Trump can stop this. He can stop it right now. He doesn’t need legislation to stop ripping families apart. George W. Bush and Barack Obama governed under the same law, and they didn’t go to town ripping families apart, stacking the kids in cages in abandoned box stores, and making plans to place them in tent prisons to share in the desert with Gila Monsters.

Jeff Sessions said it’s unfair to compare this situation to how Jews were treated in Nazi Germany, because “the Nazis were keeping the Jews from leaving the country.” Yes. The Nazis loved the Jews so much, they were begging them not to leave Germany. Please don’t go, Jews. No. That’s not right and someone buy the Attorney General a history book. The Nazis actually shipped them out of Germany in death trains. But he does have a point about the comparison. We’re not gassing these immigrants or tearing out their fillings to melt down and store the gold in Switzerland, so at least there’s that.

Last week, Trump endorsed South Carolina Congressman Mark Sanford’s opponent in the Republican primary because Sanford “wouldn’t help him MAGA,” make America great again. That wasn’t true. Sanford was MAGAing all over the place. Trump just didn’t like Sanford’s public opinion he should release his tax returns.

What is “MAGA?” MAGA is returning America to when white people had full control over government policy (which it never really lost). MAGA is making white people feel like someone is protecting them from being disenfranchised. MAGA is gaslighting and using the Joseph Goebbels method of propaganda. MAGA is emboldening white supremacists and Nazis to crawl out of the sewers where they’ve been hiding and bask in the sunlight. MAGA is being able to listen to children cry for their parents and not want to do anything to help them. MAGA is hearing those cries and continuing to use them as political leverage.

Trump ran a campaign on racism. He accused Mexico of sending their worst people to the U.S. and called them “rapists” and “murderers” minutes after riding slowly down the escalator to announce his candidacy. He said being of Mexican descent was why a judge was unfit to sit on one of his many lawsuits.

Trump said, “I hate the children are being taken away.” He could have stopped at, “I hate the children.”

Americans love to say America is the greatest country in the world. The new doctrine for our foreign policy is “We’re America, bitch.” But, I’m pretty sure the greatest country in the world wouldn’t separate children from their parents and imprison them in tents in the desert. Maybe there was some confusion, and they were supposed to be in tent prisons with dessert. Spelling is a challenge for this White House.

Obviously inspired by the recently pardoned Joe Arpaio (the racist law-breaking criminal sheriff in Arizona), the Trump administration is looking to place 1,000-5,000 immigrant children in tent cities in the desert. The number of migrant children the government has apprehended has increased by 20% since a “zero-tolerance” policy was initiated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen (who doesn’t know Norway is mostly white but knows a brown kid when she sees one). The new policy ordered the Border Patrol to refer anyone crossing the border illegally for criminal prosecution, no matter the situation. Some people being incarcerated haven’t crossed illegally, as they went to the Border Patrol and requested asylum, which we don’t grant anymore for people whose lives are threatened by gangs or spousal abuse.

The number of children currently held by the government is over 11,200 at some 100 facilities (with Trump murals and re-education classes) to hold them are around 95% full. One solution would be to stop separating children from their parents and throwing them all in jail, which sounds a little better than throwing toddlers to cacti and rattlesnakes. But, maybe the Trump murals will ward off the snakes and Gila Monsters.

Sessions justified this abuse of government policy by quoting the Bible. He cited Romans 13 when he said, “to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes.” Funny thing. That’s the same verse used by Southerners to justify owning slaves in the 1800s. Scary thing: Sessions probably knows that.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a church goer as well. During a White House press briefing Thursday, Sanders was insulting members of the press (they really hate Jim Acosta) and using the Bible defense. She said, “I can say that it is very biblical to enforce the law. That is actually repeated a number of times throughout the Bible. It’s a moral policy to follow and enforce the law.”

I haven’t seen a government use religion to justify policy this much since the Taliban.

There are probably a lot of quotes from the Bible that can be used to defend this administration.

There’s, “Thou shall not grab strange vaginas, unless thou is famous.”

And then there’s, “Thou shall not boast about grabbing strange vaginas to a reality TV host on a bus unless it’s just locker room talk.”

Plus, “Do not shag a porn star unless she’s willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement.”

I think this one was added yesterday: “Thou shall not salute a North Korean General unless his large hat is really spiffy.”

I’m gonna let you in on a secret. I made those up. But, here’s one that’s genuine: From Deuteronomy 10:18-19, “God loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.”

But, maybe I’m doing it wrong, and we’re only supposed to quote Old Testament God and not Hippy God.
