Commissioned Cartoons

I’m available to draw exclusive cartoons for your publication.

Is there a local issue you need covered for your newspaper?  Is there a local figure you want caricatured?  Is there a special event you want covered?  I’m available to draw a one-time item for you, or we can make an arrangement where I draw a cartoon weekly, monthly, or whatever time frame you need.  Just email me at clayjonz@gmail.com.

Below are a few samples I have recently created for publications throughout the U.S.A.

I actually drew this for The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, VA but The Independent asked me if they could replace the names to Utah politicians.

The Longview News-Journal

lvtoon

The school board in Longview, Texas seemed to be taking a long time selecting a new superintendent.  The editors of the Longview News-Journal asked me to create this.  They threw the subject at me and I gave them a couple of ideas and they selected this one.  They were very easy and fun to work with.

The Herald-Dispatch

The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington, West Virginia asked me to draw a cartoon on West Virginia’s candidates for U.S. Senate and third Congressional district race.  It seems each candidate is trying to present themselves as the “coal” candidate.

The News-Enterprise

mayor

On the one-year-anniversary of the death of Elizabethtown, Kentucky’s former mayor, Tim Walker, The News-Enterprise in Elizabethtown asked me to draw a caricature.  I drew several samples for them and the editor asked me a few times to make adjustments.  He also asked me to include the town symbol in the caricature which is on his lapel.

Emmitsburg News-Journal

The Emmitsburg News-Journal asked me to draw four cartoons on a state senate candidate.  I drew a cartoon for my syndicate that’s similar to the one above and the editor asked me to make some changes to make it local which I did.  This arrangement is a little different than how I normally work.  The editor wrote each of the cartoons for the most part.  So far I’ve drawn three and two of those went through several changes after I thought I was done.  I kinda expect that to happen along the way.

Here’s the second cartoon I drawn to the same publication on the same candidate.

Here’s a custom cartoon I drew for The Independent in St. George, Utah. The current plan is to draw a couple a month for them. I really enjoy working with their staff.

  1. I am a long time reader of the Colorado Springs Indy. In the April 20-26, 2022 edition is your comic titled “The Groomers”. Both my wife and I cannot understand it. Would you please shed some light on what it means.
    Thanks
