Costa Rica’s Paid Strikers

Despite not going to work, many strikers in Costa Rica were actually paid while striking. A court ruled that the Ministry of Education must recoup $150 million paid to strikers during the strike. And, over 550 of the strikers even traveled out of the country during the strike.

I don’t think the strikers understand the concept. When you strike, you’re supposed to be taking a personal sacrifice for what you believe in. I don’t think there’s much principle when you’re saying “power to the people” while cashing checks and sipping Mai Tais.

My Spanish:

My New Years resolution was to learn Spanish. Actually, it has been for the past several years, but this year I actually worked on it. I started taking daily Spanish lessons last December, and yes. I’ve been doing it every day. Don’t be impressed. The lessons only last around five to ten minutes, and they’re on Duolingo.

I have not learned Spanish yet and there’s no way I could hold a conversation in the language at this point. I’m still working on public eavesdropping. But, things have been starting to come together over the past few months. Why I’m even starting to have dreams in Spanish. Of course, in the dreams, I’m trying to figure out the words just like when I’m awake. However, the lessons have really helped with cartoons like this.
